Under the Tree: A Festive Font for Digital Branding

Recently, I was working on a boutique online store’s homepage redesign. The client wanted something warm, inviting, and seasonal to match their holiday-themed collection. After exploring several font options, I came across Under the Tree, a festive Christmas Presents font that immediately caught my eye. It’s not just any decorative font—it’s a fun, playful typeface with a clear personality that feels right at home in a digital design project.

A Visual Personality That Speaks Volumes

Under the Tree is a display font with a handcrafted feel, reminiscent of handwritten tags and festive gift wrapping. Its curves are soft, its strokes are bold, and it carries a cheerful, whimsical vibe that’s perfect for the holiday season. But what really stood out was how it could be used beyond just a seasonal theme. It has enough character to work as a brand font for creative businesses or small ventures looking to stand out with a unique visual identity.

I tested it in the hero section of the homepage, placing it over a festive image banner. At first glance, it felt like it belonged there—like it had been designed for this exact purpose. But I also knew that a good font should serve more than just aesthetics. It needs to communicate clearly, support readability, and enhance the user experience.

Testing Readability and Layout Performance

One of the first things I checked was Under the Tree’s readability in different contexts. On desktop screens, it worked well as a headline or a short tagline. However, when I previewed it on mobile, I noticed that the smaller sizes could become a bit cramped. This is a common issue with decorative fonts, which often lack the clarity needed for smaller text.

To address this, I adjusted the line spacing and increased the letter spacing slightly. I also made sure to use it sparingly—reserving it for headlines, buttons, and decorative accents rather than body copy. This way, it maintained its charm without overwhelming the user. For instance, I used it on call-to-action buttons like “Shop Now” and “Get Your Gift Today,” where its festive energy helped drive engagement without sacrificing legibility.

Using Under the Tree in Different Web Design Contexts

Under the Tree is versatile enough to fit into various web design scenarios. I’ve seen it used effectively in:

Each time, the key was using it thoughtfully—balancing its decorative nature with functional typography principles.

Font Pairing and Typographic Harmony

When pairing Under the Tree with other fonts, I found that it works best with simple sans-serif or serif fonts for body copy. For example, I paired it with a clean, modern sans-serif font like Montserrat for the main content. This created a nice contrast between the playful display font and the more professional body text.

The result was a balanced typographic hierarchy that guided users through the page naturally. It also helped maintain a sense of professionalism while still allowing the brand to express its personality through typography.

Considerations for Web Use and Licensing

Before finalizing Under the Tree for the project, I made sure to check its licensing and technical specifications. It comes with webfont support, making it easy to integrate into websites. The font includes multiple weights and alternates, which gives designers more flexibility in their layouts.

It also supports multilingual characters, which is great for international brands. However, I always recommend checking the font’s license agreement to ensure it meets your project’s commercial requirements, especially if you’re using it on an online store or in paid campaigns.

Final Thoughts on Using Under the Tree

Overall, Under the Tree is a great choice for web designers and digital creators looking to add a festive, engaging touch to their projects. It’s not just a holiday font—it’s a versatile tool that can help build a stronger brand identity through thoughtful typography.

Whether you’re designing a boutique online store, a course sales page, or a blog header, Under the Tree offers a unique visual appeal that can elevate your digital content. Just remember to use it strategically, pair it wisely, and always prioritize readability and user experience.
